INDUSTRY & INVENTION
Saturday 29 June, 4:00 pm–5:30 pm
Musical Director: Josh McNulty
Join us for a program of musical works inspired by and made possible by human ingenuity through the ages!
We will look to the future with a recent work by Australian composer Sally Greenaway, If A.I. Could Dream.
We will look back on history with Thomas Doss’s bright concert march dedicated to the polymath Galileo Galilei, and to the ingenuity of Joseph Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto — a composition made possible by the invention of the valved trumpet over 200 years ago.
Brian Balmages’s Industrial Loops is inspired by the rhythms of the factory production line. Alex Shapiro’s Tight Squeeze demands precision from the band in order to blend with the pre-recorded track that is a part of the score.
We are also delighted to present Leroy Anderson’s comedic classic for writing machine and orchestra, The Typewriter.
This concert will also feature music from Jurassic Park (John Williams), Back to the Future (Alan Silvestri) and Sherlock Holmes (Hans Zimmer)!
Mask wearing is highly recommended.
