Ancient and modern musical traditions intertwine in contemporary wind band
compositions from Colombia and Peru, paying tribute to the natural beauty
and the people from Amazon to Andes. Classical meets avant-garde in
Danzón No. 2 by Mexican composer Arturo Márquez, in his energetic
treatment of the elegant Cuban dance form. Music from Astor Piazzolla’s
surrealist opera, Maria de Buenos Aires, showcases his tango nuevo style,
while Uruguayan favourite La Cumparsita exemplifies the conventional tango.
The soaring Chilean folk music of Bordemar and Inti-Illimani, and the
Brazilian choro song Tico-Tico no Fubá are reimagined for symphonic band.
Musical Director: Joshua McNulty
