IWCB is relaunching its fabulous community youth band in Term 2, 2024!

Rehearsal and Concert information – Term 2, 2024

  • Rehearsal time and dates:
    – Wednesdays 5.15–6.45pm
    – Four rehearsals, week 6 (5th June) to week 9 (26th June) inclusive
  • Venue: Concord High School
  • Cost: approximately $70–100 per child per term (TBC)
  • Concert date: Sunday 30th June, afternoon

 

Format

Our conductor Adele Sutton (B.Mus. Ed) will guide the students through engaging repertoire, leading up to a fun concert at the end of the term. Songs will consist of a range of genres and styles, from film and popular music, to traditional wind band repertoire and Australian repertoire.

Past repertoire includes:

  • Thunder by Imagine Dragons (arranged by Paul Murtha)
  • Kookaburra Patrol by Ralph Hultgren
  • Moai (Song of Ancient Giants) by Michael Sweeney
  • Let’s Get Loud by Jennifer Lopez (arranged by Victor Lopez)

 

Requirements

  • Ages: 9–18 years old. (Year 5 – Year 12)
  • Length of playing time: 2+ years
  • Lessons: Currently enrolled in instrument-specific lessons (either private or group. Preference is given to those having private lessons, if there is a large number of candidates)
  • Instruments accepted: Flute, Piccolo, Oboe, Cor Anglais, Clarinet, Bass clarinet, Saxophone (Alto, Tenor, Baritone), Bassoon, Trumpet, French horn, Trombone, Baritone, Euphonium, Tuba, Percussion

Piano students who are willing to play mallet percussion (glockenspiel, xylophone) are also welcome!

The Inner West Community Youth Band launched in December 2019. The youth band, supported by a few select volunteers from IWCB, made their debut performance at the community carols in Halliday Park, Five Dock. The performers had a fantastic time and went away having gained new knowledge, friends and ensemble experience.
